Problemas conocidos

Esta página detalla algunos bugs conocidos y sus soluciones. Si estás teniendo problemas técnicos, sigue leyendo.

  • "Error: engine failed to initialise"

This is by far the most common reported problem. At the moment there are two approaches to fixing it.

    1. First, you should manually reset your Monitor to 800x600 with the colour depth set to Thousands. This solves the problem in about 50% of cases.
    2. There is a from our web site that fixes the problem in almost all remaining cases. This patch will also allow the game to launch even if there is not a graphics card which supports OpenGL present. Although in these cases the game is likely to run unacceptably slowly. The only advice in this instance is to get a graphics card which does support OpenGL

  • Can't find Sound sprockets.

The solution is straightforward. You need to install SoundSprockets. This can be done from the "Install Game Sprockets.smi" file in the Extras folder on the Theme Park CD. Alternativly, if you are running 8.5 or 8.5.1, we recommend updating to 8.6 - this is a free download from the Apple web site, it's about 35 MB.

  • Saved games being lost.

You can at any time save a park by hitting the options button and selecting save and then naming the park you wish to save. However as soon as you quit, the game will create an autosave file. This is the park that is automatically accessed once you restart the game. If the park has not saved properly on quitting - then it may look as though everything has been lost. However, the last time you saved a named park, a save file with that name was created and it should still be in the save folder, within the appropriate sub-folder (Jungle, Halloween, Wonderland, SpaceZone). This park can then be loaded via the load dialog.

The best way to avoid save game problems is to make sure that the game has plenty of RAM. This game is resource-hungry and most of the problems that are being reported have their root cause in a lack of RAM. So try giving the game more RAM.

We are currently working on a patch to fix this.

  • Screen going blue.

This is related to the saved game problem. Users can hear a park and can access menus, but the screen appears entirely blue. This is probably a case of the park having failed to save correctly. The advice is to do three things.

    1. Save your park regularly under a specific name
    2. To get your park to appear again - remove the autosave file from the relevant save folder. Then relaunch the game - reentering the park, the game should access your named park.
    3. Increase the RAM allocated to the game
  • Error message "Error: unable to load game (%/hs)"

There are three possible causes of this:

    1. When you are trying to load the game - it is unable to find enough RAM. This may be because you are running other applications. If this is the case makes sure that you have quit all other applications and that you have allocated plenty of RAM to the game. To allocate more RAM to the game do as follows:

Go to the Finder, select the "TPW" or "STP" application icon, and choose "Get Info -> Memory" from the File menu. A window will open with various pieces of information on it, including two editable boxes labelled "Minimum size" and "Preferred size". The minimum size is the amount of memory that "TPW" must be given in order for it to launch. By default this is set at 65000k (65 Megabytes) so that the game will launch on machines without much memory. To build a really big park, you should set the minimum size to at least 100000k (100 Megabytes). The preferred size is the amount of memory that TPW would like to have. In general you should set this value as high as you can, but there is no sense setting it to a value higher than the total memory you have free on your machine.

To find a good value for the preferred size setting, try the following.
      1. Restart your macintosh
      2. Before doing anything else, choose "About This Computer" from the Apple menu
      3. Read the value under the heading "largest unused block", and take away about 2000k (2 Megabytes) - this would be a good value to use.
    2. The game is looking for the data files that it needs to launch in the Theme Park folder and cannot find them. This could be because the files have been moved or deleted, or because some other problem is preventing TPW finding them (possibly virus protection software). In this case we suggest disabling any virus protection software and re-installing from the Theme Park CD.
    3. The game is trying to create some temporary files and cannot do so because the hard drive is full. If you have less then 100 MB of free hard disk space - try to free up some space.
  • Crashing/Failing to load on starting

We have had several reports of the game crashing on loading. There are a couple of possible causes of this:

    1. One cause we know of is Norton Anti-Virus. So as your first piece of advice we suggest you disable any anti-virus software you have and see if this solves the problem. We have also had a report that Virex causes problems.
There may be other applications which are conflicting, we are testing this but currently we can only do so on a case by case basis.
    2. You may not have the correct graphics card drivers installed. See the General Computing FAQ for directions on installing latest drivers.
  • Weird screen displays

The probable cause of this is that you have updated your system with the latest drivers from ATI, rather than the Apple-supplied ATI drivers. If you have a factory installed ATI board (i.e. it came with the computer), you must install the Apple-supplied drivers Those available from ATI's site are designed for the individually purchased boards only. Our advice is to uninstall the unsupported drivers and install the latest ATI driver update from the Apple web site.

  • Inaccurate rendering of textures

If your graphics are only appearing in shades of grey or losing most of the colours on the screen, you need to allocate more RAM to the game. Try increasing Virtual Memory to at least 150 MB, and increasing the allocation to the game accordingly.

  • General Instability

We have had a number of reports of the game crashing/freezing after running for a certain length of time. We are looking at this right now. The two workaround methods at present are:

    1. Allocate more RAM
    2. Save regularly - say every 10 minutes or so.
Both reduce the instability and 2. also prevents much work from being lost.
