Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games

Photosensitive Seizures

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions: Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; and do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued. If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

Precautions to take during use

  • Sit a good distance away from the monitor.
  • Avoid playing if you are tired or have not had much sleep.
  • Make sure that the room in which you are playing is well lit.
  • Rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes per hour while playing a video game.

Installation

As part of the Steam download process, the game has already been installed on your computer. To start playing the game, read the Getting Started section.

Getting Started

  1. If it is not already running, launch the Steam application.

  2. Select Library.

  3. In the library, select GRID Autosport, then select Play.

  4. The GRID™ Autosport pre-game Options window will appear. Click on the Play button. The game will launch.

  5. After the loading screens, the Start screen will appear. Press the Return (↩) key.

  6. A message will appear explaining that the game uses an autosave feature. Press the Return (↩) key.

  7. The Main Menu will appear. Select Career.

  8. After the opening video, you'll find yourself at the Hockenheimring in Germany. Master this most legendary of tracks to get your career off the starting grid.

2

The Basics

Autosave

GRID™ Autosport will automatically save your game at set points.

Menu Navigation

Use the Arrow keys to navigate the menus.

Press the Return (↩) key to confirm/select or the Escape (esc) key to cancel/back up. On some menu screens there are additional options available: look for prompts to use the F1 and F2 keys, or the F3 and F4 keys.

Driving Assists

Driving assists help you control your car while racing. If you're having difficulty with the game, try enabling some of the assists.

You can enable or disable driving assists either before or during races:

  • From the Main Menu, select Options & ExtrasDifficulty;
  • Before starting a race, select Difficulty Settings from the Paddock Area screen;
  • During a race, select Difficulty from the in-game Pause menu.

Audio Options

System EQ
The System EQ option lets you adjust the game's audio to suit your listening environment.

  • Large Speakers has sound optimized for high-quality, full-range speaker systems;
  • Small Speakers has sound optimized for small computer or TV speakers;
  • Headphones has sound optimized for headphones.

Dynamic Range
The sound in GRID™ Autosport is mixed with a wide dynamic range to maximize audio fidelity. The default setting is High. If you have set your audio to a low volume, set the dynamic range to Low to avoid missing quieter sounds.

3

Flashbacks

If you make a mistake on track there’s no need to restart your race: you can use a flashback to rewind the action. Press the Backspace (←) key to trigger a flashback and the race will begin to rewind. When you reach the point before things went wrong, press the Backspace (←) key again to resume the race.

You can use flashbacks during multiplayer races, but they work a little differently from those in single-player races. Rather than letting you rewind the race to a point of your choosing, your position and damage will be instantly rewound by a set amount while other drivers continue racing.

Replays

You can view a cinematic replay of your race after it has ended. To do so, select Replay from the results screen after completing a race.

Use the on-screen button prompts to rewind the video, play it back in slow motion or change the camera angle.

4

The On-Track Game Screen

While racing, useful information is displayed on screen to help you follow the action.

NOTE: the on-screen display differs slightly depending on the game mode.

Vehicles

Disciplines

The vehicles in GRID™ Autosport are categorized into five disciplines: Touring, Endurance, Open-Wheel, Tuner and Street. Each discipline represents a unique style of racing, and each type of car handles differently.

Upgrading Vehicles

You can apply upgrades to vehicles to improve their performance. The upgrades available to you differ depending on the vehicle you have selected, the team you are racing for (in career mode) and the amount of vehicle XP you have earned (in online games).

To apply upgrades to a vehicle, either:

  • Select a vehicle in your garage, then select Vehicle Upgrades;
  • Or select Vehicle Upgrades from the Paddock Area screen before starting a race.

Tuning Vehicles

You can tune your vehicles to make them more suitable for a particular track and for your driving style. When you tune a vehicle, each setting represents a trade-off between two handling characteristics (e.g. acceleration and top speed), so you'll need to experiment and carefully analyse the race conditions to get the right balance.

To tune your vehicle, select Vehicle Tuning from the Paddock Area screen before starting a race.

Damage

You’ll experience realistic handling effects as a result of vehicle damage during races. In a particularly bad crash, the damage may be terminal and you’ll have to use a flashback, restart the race or stop racing altogether. You can see how badly damaged your vehicle is by looking at the damage indicators on the instrument cluster.

You can switch damage between Full and Visual Only via the Difficulty Settings menu (Main MenuOptions & ExtrasDifficultyDamage Level):

  • Full – damage to a car affects its handling, and severe damage may disable the car entirely;
  • Visual only – damage to a car only affects its appearance.

In career and online races, you receive more XP and cash if damage is set to Full.

Game Modes

Career

To play the career mode, select Career from the Main Menu.

In this mode, you build your professional racing career from the ground up. How you do so is up to you: you can choose to specialize in your favorite disciplines and raise your profile in just those, or try to conquer them all and gain access to the prestigious GRID championships, which require you to have experience across all disciplines.

Raise your Profile

To raise your profile within a discipline and gain access to more prestigious competitions, you must win races, fulfil sponsor objectives and meet the expectations of your team manager.

Team Offers

To start a new season, you must accept a team offer. Team offers are awarded based on your overall performance within a discipline: the more you progress, the better the teams that will want you to race for them.

Your team will provide vehicles, a teammate and access to their upgrades and tuning options: you only need to provide the results!

Custom Cup

To play a custom event, select Custom Cup from the Main Menu.

In this mode, you can set up a single race or a mini-championship to your own specification. You can choose from any of the game modes, tracks and vehicles in the game.

Splitscreen

To play a splitscreen event, select Splitscreen from the Main Menu.

In this mode, two players can race together in the same event, using a single computer and screen.

9

Online

To play online, select Online from the Main Menu.

In online mode, you can race against your friends and other GRID™ Autosport players from around the world.

Garage

Your garage is where vehicles you've purchased are stored. To view your garage, select OnlineMy Vehicles from the Main Menu.

You can upgrade, tune and customize any vehicle in the garage. Select a vehicle to see the options available to you.

Your garage has a limited number of vehicle slots, but you can purchase more using in-game cash.

Cash

You earn in-game cash by performing well in online races, fulfiling sponsor objectives and completing RaceNet challenges.

Cash is used to purchase new vehicles and upgrades, unlock additional garage slots, repair vehicles and more.

Vehicle XP

Each of your vehicles has its own XP level. As you race, your vehicle earns XP, and when it earns enough, its level will increase. New upgrades and tuneable components are unlocked for each vehicle as it gains levels. Once unlocked, they can be purchased using in-game cash.

10

Customizing Vehicles

You can change the appearance of your vehicles. To do so, select a vehicle in the garage, then select Vehicle Livery. You can then either select a livery from the list that appears, or create a custom livery by selecting an empty slot.

You can choose from a variety of different paint patterns, colors and finishes. You can also personalize the vehicle’s wheel style and select up to six sponsor decals to appear across the chassis. As a finishing touch, you can choose a racing number to appear on the side of your vehicle.

Loan Vehicles

If you don’t have a suitable vehicle for a race, don’t worry: you can still race using a loan vehicle. You'll be able to pick one from a small selection before starting a race. However, loan vehicles cannot be customized and don't earn XP or level up, and you'll earn less cash when racing one.

Wear and Tear

Vehicles in GRID™ Autosport will suffer from wear and tear as you use them, which will affect their performance. To keep a vehicle in peak condition, you must repair it regularly.

To repair a vehicle, select it in the garage, then select Vehicle Repairs.

Serious crashes and high mileage will increase the rate at which your vehicle's condition deteriorates. To ensure your car stays in top shape, try to stay out of trouble!

11

Online Playlist

Online playlists allow you to quickly and easily join in the action, with a rotation of tracks and vehicle types. When you race using a playlist, you'll move straight from one race to the next.

To play an online playlist, select OnlineMultiplayerOnline Playlist from the Main Menu.

There's a separate playlist for each discipline, as well as one that includes all disciplines.

Online Custom Cup

If you want to play a particular kind of event, you can specify your search criteria using the online Custom Match menu (OnlineMultiplayerCustom CupCustom Match). The game will automatically match you up with like-minded players.

RaceNet

Visit www.racenet.com to sign up for a RaceNet account. By linking your game to your RaceNet account, you'll be able to track your player stats, compare yourself with other players using the online leaderboards and compete in online challenges.

RaceNet Clubs

You can create or join a RaceNet Club on the RaceNet website. Once you're part of a club, you can compare your performance with that of fellow members, earn in-game awards and race with your club livery to raise your club's standing in the leaderboards.

RaceNet Challenge

RaceNet Challenge mode presents you with new challenges every week. To access them, select OnlineRaceNet Challenge from the Main Menu.

Compete in the challenges to climb the online leaderboard: the higher your rank in the leaderboard at the end of the week, the bigger the reward of XP and in-game cash you'll earn!
