  3. Can I play HITMAN™ with a gamepad?

    Yes.

The gamepads in the following list have been tested and are supported by HITMAN™:

If your gamepad is not on the list, email padsupport@feralinteractive.com and our support team will reply to you with a request for information about your device. Once we have this information, a gamepad support file will be created and emailed to you.

  4. Are there any gamepads that are recognized but unsupported?

  5. How do I switch my pad to the correct mode?

Some gamepads support both DirectInput and XInput modes. These gamepads can be identified by a switch on them that has two options, “D” (DirectInput) and “X” (XInput).

To play HITMAN™ a gamepad must be supported and set to DirectInput mode.

Currently supported devices that have this switch are:

If your gamepad has the switch and is not on this list, you will not be able to use it to play HITMAN™ without a pad support file. To obtain one, email padsupport@feralinteractive.com and our support team will reply to you with a request for information about your device. Once we have this information, we can usually create a gamepad support file and email it to you.

To switch the gamepad to DirectInput mode, follow these instructions:

    1. If the HITMAN™ application is running, close it.

    2. Unplug the gamepad (or wireless receiver, if the gamepad is wireless).

    3. Turn the switch on the pad to “D”.

    4. Plug the pad or wireless receiver back in.

    5. Restart the HITMAN™ application.

You will now be able to play HITMAN™ with the gamepad.

  6. Can I play using my Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad?

    Yes.

However, you must first enable the secondary click function on your mouse or trackpad. This will enable you to perform a right-click by clicking the right-hand side of your mouse or trackpad.

To do this, follow these instructions:

    1. Open the System Settings app.

    2. Select Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).

    3. Select the Secondary Click menu.

    4. Select Click Right Side (mouse) / Click in Bottom Right Corner (trackpad)

  7. How do I aim and fire at the same time using my Magic Mouse or Trackpad?

If you are using a Magic Mouse or Trackpad, you cannot click the Left Mouse button while holding down the Right Mouse button. This means that you cannot aim and fire using only your mouse.

Instead, you can aim by holding down the Alt/Option (⌥) key. You'll then be able to fire using the Left Mouse button as normal.

If you prefer, you can change the key bindings for aiming and firing. You can customize your keyboard configuration by selecting Options → Mouse & Keyboard → Keybindings from the Main Menu.

  8. What is mouse acceleration, and how do I disable it on macOS?

Mouse acceleration refers to the increase in speed over time as you move your mouse cursor across the screen. If mouse acceleration is enabled, it can interfere when playing games (causing erratic camera movements, for example).

On macOS, mouse acceleration is enabled by default, and you cannot adjust or disable it via System Preferences. You can only adjust mouse acceleration using the macOS Terminal application. If you wish to disable mouse acceleration we strongly advise that you make a note of your Mac's current settings, in case you wish to return to those settings in future.

To view your current mouse acceleration settings:

    1. Open the Terminal application.
    2. Enter the following code: defaults read .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling
    3. Press the Return key. The Terminal will respond with a number between 0.0 and 3.0. This is the current mouse acceleration sensitivity setting.

To disable mouse acceleration on your Mac, follow the steps below:

    1. Open the Terminal application.
    2. Enter the following code: defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
    3. Press the Return key. Mouse acceleration will now be disabled on your Mac.

If you wish to re-enable mouse acceleration at any time, simply follow the steps above but enter a number between 0.0 and 3.0.

  9. Magic Mouse and Trackpad gestures interfere with the game. How do I disable them?

Finger "gestures", which are used by Magic Mice and Trackpads to switch between windows and applications, can disrupt your game if used inadvertently.

To disable them, follow these instructions:

    1. Open System Preferences ( Menu → System Preferences).

    2. Click on Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).

    3. Select the More Gestures tab.

    4. Uncheck all the checkboxes.

  10. How do I stop the mouse pointer from becoming larger while I'm playing the game?

Recent versions of OS X include a feature that makes the mouse pointer larger when you shake it quickly from side to side, helping you to locate its position on screen.

To turn this feature off, follow the steps below:

    1. Open System Preferences ( Menu → System Preferences).

    2. Select Accessibility.

    3. Select Display → Pointer.

    4. Disable the Shake Mouse Pointer to Locate checkbox.

  11. How do I stop the dock, notifications and the desktop cursor from appearing while I'm playing HITMAN™?

The dock or notifications may occasionally appear while you are playing HITMAN™, or the desktop cursor may replace the game cursor. This can disrupt a game.

You can prevent them from occurring by checking the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox in the HITMAN™ pre-game Options window. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. From the HITMAN™ pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.

    2. Check the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox.

  13. Is HITMAN™ optimized for Retina displays?

    Yes.

If you have a Retina display, you will be able to take advantage of the extra pixels by running HITMAN™ in native resolution. This means that the game will display one pixel for every pixel on your display.

To do this, follow these instructions:

    1. From the HITMAN™ pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.

    2. Select the largest resolution from the Resolution drop-down menu to play the game in native Retina resolution.

    3. Click the Play button. The game will start in native Retina resolution.

NOTE: In many cases, increasing your game's resolution will impact upon its performance.

  17. How do I take screenshots in HITMAN™?

To take screenshots while playing HITMAN™ you should use the following key command:

    Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + P

When you press all three keys at once, a single image of the on-screen contents will be saved in the Feral Interactive folder in your computer's ~/Pictures folder (the "~" symbol refers to your home directory).

The JPEG image contains metadata in a string in the following format.

GameName/Version Number (OS Version; CPU Speed; Installed RAM; Video RAM; Current Graphics Card)

For example in HITMAN™ the string might look a little like this:

    HITMAN/1.0 (macOS 10.15; 3.0; 8.0; 4.0; AMD Radeon R9 M395X)

This information can be easily removed by exporting the screenshot into a different format using Preview or another image editing tool.

NOTE: None of the metadata stored can be used to identify the user.

  18. Can I play this game on a case-sensitive file system?

No. HITMAN™ has been tested with the basic formatting option for Mac OS X, which is HFS+. This system is not case-sensitive and identifies files by name without checking capitalization.

The capitalization of filenames is not consistent throughout the game. While this will not always prevent the game from running on case-sensitive file systems, it may lead to crashes and other unpredictable behaviour.

If you have to run a case-sensitive setup and you experience problems with HITMAN™, please install the game on a standard formatted partition or read/write disk image. In most cases this will allow you to play the game on your machine.

To see a list of the libraries used in HITMAN™, and view their license files, select Software Licenses from the Support tab of the pre-game Options window.
