Biography

From an early age, Colin McRae displayed a talent for controlling two and four-wheel machinery at speed. After a successful competition stint on motorcycles in his youth, he was determined to follow in the footsteps of his father, five times British Champion Jim. He started his rallying career in his native Scotland behind the wheel of a Talbot Sunbeam in 1986 and it took less than a year for him to make his FIA World Rally Championship debut. He finished 36th in the snow and ice of the 1987 Swedish Rally behind the wheel of the Vauxhall Nova with which he won his class in that year’s British Championship.
